Fleetwood Mac, Hyde Park, 1969 by Alec Byrne
Alec photographed the classic UK lineup of Fleetwood Mac in London’s Hyde Park in August of 1969, just prior to the release of the group’s first rock album Then Play On: (L-R) John McVie, the late Danny Kirwan, Peter Green, who sadly passed away earlier this summer, Mick Fleetwood and Jeremy Spencer. After the obligatory magazine-ready setup on the bench—the session was likely for a piece in New Musical Express—Alec followed his standard procedure and, with the lads loosened up, asked them for something a little off kilter. Soon the Mac found themselves in a sail boat, floating in the Serpentine, the lake in the middle of the park. Alec also captured a classic color image of this moment, which you can see in his book LONDON ROCK: The Unseen Archive (Insight Editions).
