Aretha Franklin, London, 1968 by Alec Byrne

$1,200.00

Aretha Franklin at a London press call in 1968 during her tour of the UK: Alec, just 19, somehow had a knack for finding an angle that would replicate the look and feel of an intimate studio session, even when, as in this case, there were a dozen other photographers trying to get the star’s attention. This was the very first time Franklin had left the U.S., touring to support her albums Lady Soul and Aretha Now, both released that year and which featured the signature tracks “Chain of Fools,” “Ain’t No Way,” “Think,” and “I Say a Little Prayer.” Just 26, she also won two Grammy awards in ‘68, and was featured on the cover of Time magazine, well on her way to achieving her status as the Queen of Soul.
